General Election 2017: Manifesto Pledges on Restorative Justice?

Published: Thursday, April 27th, 2017

The Prime Minister achieved a feat rare in politics that of surprise – catching most of the country, the media and seemingly her own MPs off guard with the announcement of a General Election on 8th June.

The votes cast by the British public will elect a Government into office for a term of up to five years.

The political parties will soon publish their election Manifestos which will set out their policies for all areas of Government – including justice and home affairs – and set the direction of the next Government.

Lucy Jaffe, Director of Why me? says:

Fewer than five per cent of victims are currently being offered access to Restorative Justice and the experience of victims continues to vary greatly depending upon where they live. This election is an opportunity for parties to demonstrate real commitment to the Victims’ Code and widening access to Restorative Justice across the country.”

Why me? will be analysing each party manifesto as it is published and sharing a summary on the news page.
