Valuing Victims 2017 is Live!
Today we launched our Valuing Victims 2017 campaign. Through conducting a national survey and organising a regional workshop in April, this campaign will look into how the Restorative Justice offer is made across England and Wales.
The purpose of this campaign is to examine what is happening in each Police and Crime Commissioner area and publish this information identifying and sharing good practice in this critical area.
Richard Monkhouse (Chair of Why me?) says:
We keep reading reports about victims being at the heart of the Criminal Justice System. The Victims’ Code states that victims of crime should be made aware of the option of Restorative Justice and yet under 5% of victims are made unaware of the benefits that RJ could bring to both victim and offender and therefore to the public. I am please we are launching a new campaign, Valuing Victims 2017, which seeks to understand how the Restorative Justice offer is made to victims of crime throughout England and Wales. I would encourage all PCCs and RJ Services to help us identify how best to increase the number of victims being offered and becoming engaged in RJ.
