Join our 95:95 challenge
This is a blog by our Fundraising Officer Lucy Harris.
This September, the Why me? team are inviting you to join us for our 95:95 sponsored challenge.
Our team will be collectively travelling a distance of 95 miles to raise awareness of the 95% of victims of crime who are not told about their entitlement to Restorative Justice.
All victims of crime are entitled to information about Restorative Justice under the Victims’ Code of Practice, but only 5% of victims with a known offender recall being given information about it. This needs to change.
We are asking you to take on the challenge with us.
You can choose any method to travel and any distance to contribute towards the 95 miles. Walk, run, cycle, roller skate or anything else, the choice is yours! This is a flexible event, and you can choose when in September you wish to contribute your distance. The only limit is your imagination, and however you choose to participate, the donations you raise will be making a huge difference to the lives of all victims of crime.
In April, Why me? took part in our first sponsored event, running an amazing 35km for Restorative Justice. We were so proud of our fundraising team’s achievements and their incredible efforts to raise nearly £1,600 from 54 donations. This will make a huge difference to the work we do at Why me? to enable more people to experience the life-changing benefits of Restorative Justice.
Restorative Justice has the power to transform lives. All victims of crime are entitled to information about Restorative Justice under the Victims’ Code of Practice, but the government’s Crime Survey for England and Wales revealed only 5% of victims with a known offender recall being given information about it. This needs to change. By undertaking this challenge, we hope to raise awareness of this issue so that more people affected by crime can access Restorative Justice. For every mile our fundraising team travels, we will raise awareness for 1% of victims.
