Time for change
This is a blog by our Director, Lucy Jaffé.
It’s time for a change at Why me?. After 12 years with the charity, I have decided to stand down as Director. It has not been an easy decision to make as I love Why me? and our important work promoting Restorative Justice.
I joined Why me? in 2011 and have been Director since 2016. During that time, Why me? has contributed to the expanded use of Restorative Justice in justice and education. We have campaigned and communicated tirelessly alongside our lived experience ambassadors, to raise the profile of Restorative Justice and highlight its value and benefit to people affected by crime and conflict. Our communications work has helped to encourage, motivate and highlight the extraordinary work of dedicated restorative professionals across the UK and the world. I believe Restorative Justice is smarter justice, and my passion will continue as a Board member of the European Forum of Restorative Justice.
There is still a huge amount of work to do to promote Restorative Justice, and the transformative effect it can have on people, to wider and more diverse audiences and communities. I see potential to increase its use at grassroots community level, as part of statutory systems and to extend and improve legislation and policy.
The Board is working to recruit my successor and are looking for someone with drive and motivation to lead Why me? in the years ahead. You can find details of the post on The Right Ethos website. A thorough selection process is being run to attract the very best candidates available. We aim to have a new Director in post by the Spring. Please consider applying for the role or recommending it to your networks. You are welcome to talk to me if that is helpful too at Lucy.jaffe@why-me.org or Chair, David Munro at info@why-me.org.
I will be working for Why me? on a part-time basis from 1st February 2024 to assist with a smooth transition and legacy. So this is not goodbye just yet.
