Why me?’s Radio 4 Charity Appeal

Why me? are excited to announce we have been selected to broadcast a BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal.
Radio 4’s Appeals are a programme highlighting the work of a charity each week and appealing for donations. It reaches a weekly audience of 1.8 million listeners, and can raise thousands of pounds worth of donations for charities.
We are delighted that Why me?’s patron, Mel Giedroyc will be presenting our appeal for us. As a well-known actress, comedian and television presenter and having presented popular BBC TV shows like the Great British Bake Off and Eurovision 2023, she will provide a recognisable voice to our appeal for Radio 4 listeners.
Mel has been involved in Why me?’s work for 7 years, including speaking at our events and undertaking Restorative Justice practitioner training. She is passionate about Restorative Justice, and will be telling listeners how inspired she is by the work of Why me?. Mel knows that Restorative Justice transforms the lives of all victims of crime. She says:
“I’ve been very inspired by the work of Why me?. I think Restorative Justice is the way forward for reducing crime rates, but also giving victims of crime that healing experience and closure that they so often desperately need.”
Last week, our Fundraising Officer Lucy Harris accompanied Mel to BBC’s Broadcasting House to record our Charity Appeal. Our appeal will tell the story of Janika, one of our lived-experience ambassadors. Janika suffered a violent knife attack at the hands of her former partner who was convicted for attempted murder. Janika’s story demonstrates the life changing effects of Restorative Justice, and how it can transform survivors from a victim to a victor. She said, “taking part in restorative justice was the key that unlocked the door to my future.”
