Why me? share views of the sector in ReHub review
This is a blog by our Communications and Campaigns Manager, Keeva Baxter.
Why me? were pleased to contribute to a consultation on the Ministry of Justice’s Restorative Practice Hub (ReHub). ReHub are currently conducting a review in order to “identify areas for improvement and provide actionable recommendations”. We were invited to attend a stakeholder consultation this week, and are pleased to have had the opportunity to represent the views of the sector.
Following consultation with you, through both our survey on working restoratively in prison and multiple forum events, we went on to raise the issue directly with Lord Timpson and write a briefing on the key issues you shared with us. The briefing also contained direct quotes about the impact of ReHub from both facilitators and Restorative Justice participants and highlighted our key recommendations for moving forward.
ReHub have shared the following statement about their review:
“In August 2025, the HMPPS Public Protection Group initiated a focused internal review of the Restorative Practice Hub (re:hub) with the aim to identify areas for improvement and provide actionable recommendations. The internal review will include:
- a full review of the current processes with recommendations on how to improve timeliness and communication throughout. This will include reviewing the appeal mechanism;
- a full review of the team structure and resourcing;
- consideration and review of certain policy positions;
- engagement with key stakeholders throughout the review period; and
- development of improved data collection and reporting.
Whilst the review will consider some policy points, the purpose of the review is not to conduct a full review of the Restorative Practice Policy (incorporating Restorative Justice Services) Policy Framework.
Due to the timescale and resourcing, the review cannot focus on every part of the re:hub team’s work. Therefore, for the purpose of this, the ‘within-the-gate’ work will not be included within the scope.
The review will last three months and a report with the actionable recommendations will be concluded in early November.”
We will continue to feed into the consultation when we get the opportunity to, and will keep you updated as we receive more information and the final report.
