This week, we held a forum on the Victims’ Code Consultation, to gather the views of the restorative sector on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. We had around 50 attendees who shared their insights and ideas on how we can strengthen the existing Victims’ Code to ensure that the rights of victims of crime are being met. At the moment, there are two key segments in the Victims’ Code that discuss Restorative Justice (see image).
If you missed our event, you can still have your say. The survey is still live and includes questions on when and how victims of crime should be told about the Code and Restorative Justice, how the mentions of RJ in the Code could be strengthened, who should be making the offer of RJ, whether RJ should be a separate right in the Code and much more.
By contributing to this survey by the end of Sunday 29th March, your views will be fed back directly to the Ministry of Justice to feed into their development of a new Victims’ Code. We will be sharing more on how we are responding to the consultation in our newsletter over the coming weeks. The deadline for all responses is 30th April.
