What is Restorative Justice?

Restorative Justice (RJ) is a voluntary process involving the person who has suffered harm and the person who has caused harm. Trained facilitators work with victims and offenders to talk about what happened, who was affected and how, and what can be done to help repair the harm. In the short video below, former victims of crime share their experiences of Restorative Justice.

Our Restorative Justice Service

Are you a victim of crime?

If the answer to that question is “yes”, you can request to take part in Restorative Justice (RJ). RJ provides victims with the opportunity to tell the offender how they have been impacted by their actions and in what ways and to ask questions which only those involved may be able to answer. This can take the form of an exchange of letters or messages shuttled between the two parties by RJ facilitators. Or, with thorough preparation, a face-to-face meeting can be arranged.

RJ can provide a safe way for victims to express their feelings and get their questions answered. They can regain their confidence and peace of mind after a crime has taken place. Harm can be repaired and reparations can be made.

Our trained and experienced facilitators work with victims of crime to help meet their needs and work with offenders to take responsibility for their actions. We prepare and support you throughout the RJ process.

It’s so exciting that Why me? are offering any victim who wants it the chancMel Giedroyce to have Restorative Justice. I’ve been a great supporter of Restorative Justice since I filmed the BBC TV series, “The Gift”. I saw how much potential it has to restore peace of mind and confidence in someone who has had their world turned upside down by a crime.
