Retail Crime and Restorative Justice – Resources

From shoplifting to abuse of staff, retail crime is a prominent issue across the UK. While they are often seen as victimless, retail crimes can actually have long-lasting effects for retailers, staff and shop-owners. Many are left reticent to go back to work, feeling unsafe and living in fear that they will be targeted again. For people who commit retail crimes, they may want the chance to explain their actions and make amends for the harm they have caused.

Restorative Justice is a powerful tool that can help people who commit retail crimes see the impact of their actions and can help the victims of those crimes to recover and move forward. We want to help widen the use of Restorative Justice to tackle the harm caused by retail crime, reducing reoffending and promoting positive community relationships. This page contains some key resources that will help you understand how Restorative Justice can be used in these cases, and how it can be implemented in retail settings.
