Join us: Why now is the perfect time to become Chair of Why me?

Published: Wednesday, May 28th, 2025

This is a blog by Will Jacks, Why me?’s Vice Chair of Trustees.

Why me? is a small charity with a big impact. We champion Restorative Justice, a process that gives people affected by crime a chance to be heard, to ask questions, and to move forward. It changes lives. And we need the right leadership to continue growing its reach and impact.

That’s why we’re recruiting a new Chair of Trustees.

Why me? is a brilliant charity

For over 17 years, Why me? has been at the forefront of Restorative Justice in the UK. We’re the voice for people who too often go unheard. We’ve delivered services where no one else would. We advocate for change, influence policy, and raise awareness at a national level.

We do all of this with a small, passionate team, and the support of a committed Board. We’re incredibly proud of the impact we’ve had and even more excited about where we’re heading.

A time of real opportunity

This is a pivotal moment for Why me?. We have a refreshed strategy, an energised and capable CEO and a talented, diverse Board. Changes to criminal justice are bringing fresh opportunities to influence policy, and our recent campaigns have sparked conversations about Restorative Justice in places we’ve never reached before.

We’re ready to scale up and we’re looking for a Chair who can help lead us into this next chapter.

Make your mark and a real difference

As Chair, you’ll help shape the future of a charity that truly makes a difference to those affected by crime. You’ll guide our strategic direction, support our leadership team, and ensure strong governance—all while championing the cause of Restorative Justice to wider audiences.

Being on the Board is both a responsibility and a joy. It’s a space for collaboration, learning, and thoughtful challenge. You’ll work closely with fellow Trustees and staff who care deeply about this work.

Curious? Let’s talk.
