This is a blog by our CEO, Sara Dowling.
Why me? is delighted to welcome Trevor Botting as our new Chair.
Trevor has had a 41-year career in law enforcement working within criminal justice in the UK and on British Overseas Territories. He has led culturally diverse teams delivering services and outcomes to culturally diverse communities, always with a commitment to public safety, reducing the number of victims of crime and supporting them and their families through criminal justice processes.
He was a member of the Criminal Justice Board on the Turks and Caicos Islands when Restorative Justice was introduced across criminal justice partners and a Victim and Witness Care Unit was established on the territory.
Through his career, Trevor has been committed to giving victims of crime a voice within the Criminal Justice System as part of seeking the best outcomes for them and sees Restorative Justice as a critical element of this commitment.
Trevor says, “I am delighted to be joining Why me? UK as its new Chair. It’s a great organisation, with dedicated staff and volunteers working to promote access to Restorative Justice for everyone affected by crime and to ensure victims of harm have a voice within the criminal justice system. I am very much looking forward to working with everyone to take forward our goals and ambitions to see more people affected by crime access the transformative tool of Restorative Justice”.
Sara Dowling, our CEO adds “We’re all really excited to be welcoming Trevor Botting as our new Chair. His commitment to victim-centred justice and his extensive experience across diverse criminal justice systems make him an invaluable addition to our team. We look forward to working together to realise our vision of seeing Restorative Justice at the heart of a compassionate, equitable, and effective criminal justice system.
I’d also like to extend my sincere thanks to our outgoing Chair, David Munro, for all his leadership, commitment and support, which has helped shape the organisation’s direction and impact over the past 4 years.”
