Launched in 2016, Platform B is Brighton & Hove’s only youth-led radio station broadcasting on 105.5FM, DAB+ and online. Directed by next generation DJs, producers and presenters, the not-for-profit radio station reimagines and diversifies the medium through an eclectic mix of music and youth programming. Each year, it collaborates with 100+ young volunteers to create relevant, engaging content by and for 16–24 year olds who are underserved by mainstream broadcasters.
Platform B have created two shows using clips from Why me?’s Damage and Repair project in order to highlight the power of Restorative Justice. The hosts, Serena and Azra, dive into the background of Restorative Justice in the UK, the benefits it can bring to participants and what it is like to go through the process, using the testimony of lived experience to demonstrate.
Part One features an introduction to Restorative Justice, some of the history and background to the movement, alongside one of the interviews from the Damage and Repair project with Lucy Jaffé – a facilitator and former Director of Why me?.
Part Two features an interview with Andrew Milton Thompson who is a Volunteer Mentor at criminal justice charity Sussex Pathways, alongside one of the stories from the Damage and Repair project featuring Ray and Vi Donovan.
These radio shows will help a new audience of young people in Brighton and Hove to understand the life-changing power of Restorative Justice. By knowing about it at an early stage, they can go on to take restorative principles into their daily lives and understand the options available to them and others should they experience harm.
